Longford Westmeath Fianna Fáil Deputy Robert Troy stepped down as Minister of State in the Department of Enterprise following the controversy last year.
The initial inquiry from the Standards in Public Office Commission has found there's no prima facie evidence to support any suggestion there was a conflict of interest around Deputy Troy’s public statements about funding for the Rental Accommodation Scheme during his time in ministerial office.
However, it will proceed to investigate omissions in Deputy Troy's declarations, which were later corrected, during a period between 2020 and 2022.
In a statement to Midlands 103, the Fianna Fáil rep says he welcomes the initial findings of the inquiry, and he's already acknowledged he made an error based on what he says was a "flawed interpretation of the legislation."
He also says he looks forward to cooperating fully with the investigation, and he's hopeful it will conclude in a timely manner.
