SIPTU reps will discuss with Ericsson's Athlone plant the details of their redundancy package.
SIPTU is criticising a Westmeath technology plant for the short notice its giving over planned redundancies.
Workers at Ericsson in Athlone will learn details of a voluntary redundancy package on Tuesday.
The company is aiming to let go of 29 staff in Westmeath as well as some workers in Dublin.
SIPTU will sit down with Ericsson next week to hammer out details of the offer in advance of the voluntary redundancy window closing on Friday week.
Sector organiser with the union Adrian Kane says everyone is under time pressure now:
Statement from Ericsson Athlone:
After consultation with unions and employee representatives we have announced our intention to seek employee reductions of up to 35 employees from the total workforce of approximately 1550 positions across the Dublin and Athlone sites. The majority of these reductions will be sought through a voluntary process which opened on January 28th.
These proposed staff reductions are part of global initiatives to improve our cost position, while maintaining investments critical to Ericsson’s technology leadership and execution of our strategy.
Ericsson remains committed to Ireland and to our customers.
