It follows a new report on online behaviour towards local and general election candidates last year.

Almost 60% of general election candidates and nearly half of local election candidates reported experiencing negative online behaviour last year.

That's according to a new report from the broadcast regulator, Coimisiún na Meán.

Longford Westmeath TD Sorca Clarke was involved in the production of another report on safe participation in public life last year.

She believes un-elected candidates are particularly exposed to online threats and abuse.
