Staffing and funding are the main drivers behind hospital overcrowding in the Midlands, according to the INMO.

Its latest statistics show the number of people waiting on trolleys in Mullingar Hospital is up 40% over the course of the last four months.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation is pointing to over 1,500 nursing and midwifery vacant posts.
