A new stakeholder group is to be formed to campaign for the full retention of livestock capacity and shipping licences on Brittany Ferries.
Hundreds of farmers across the country attended a meeting in Athlone on Saturday evening, held by Independent Ireland Midlands MEP Ciaran Mullooly and Roscommon Galway TD Michael Fitzmaurice.
Both will meet with Irish Ferries on Friday to discuss the capacity shortfall for livestock export, and examine the legal implications of the Brittany Ferries decision.
Another public meeting will be held to formulate proposals for Government assistance to present to the Agriculture Minister.
