Over 11,000 people in Ireland develop dementia every year.
An estimated 64,000 people live with dementia in Ireland, and each year more than 11,000 people develop the disease across the country.
The figures come as the Alzheimer Society of Ireland launches its annual Tea Day fundraiser.
The Society is calling on communities across the country to get involved with local Tea Day events to help provide much needed funding.
Westmeath's Care Co-ordinator Orlaith Leonard says a number of local tea days are happening across the midlands:
Tea Day is finally here. 🍵 Today, thousands of people will come #TogetherForTea & join @daithi_ose and @imsineadkennedy in support of people living with dementia in Ireland.
