The talk takes place from the Shamrock Lodge Hotel this evening.
A talk on the Siege of Jadotville is taking place in the midlands this evening.
In September 1961, 156 Irish soldiers serving with the UN in Katanga, many of whom were from Athlone, were encircled by around 5,000 Katangese forces.
The men of A Company held out against repeated attacks for five days before being captured and held hostage for a month.
The story of the Siege will be recounted through the diaries of Jadotville Commandant Pat Quinlan, presented by his son, Commandant Leo Quinlan, at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel in Athlone at 7:30pm.
Adding to the evening will be the local launch of retired Lt Colonel Dan Harvey’s Jadotville Benchmark for Bravery.
