The social media platform have been appearing before the Oireachtas Media Committee.
The Chair of the Oireachtas Media Committee says TikTok’s response to taking down harmful content is ‘questionable’.
This comes from Labour's Alan Kelly after the social media platform took questions from TDs and senators yesterday, over its role in the online ‘glorification’ of dangerous driving and other criminal acts.
TikTok said it identified around 1,6000 videos relating to dangerous driving since the collision on the M9 near Athy last month.
The head on motorway crash claimed the lives of five teenagers and left a Midlands family of four with serious injuries.
Deputy Kelly says questions still remain:
Micheal Carrigy is a Fine Gael TD for Longford-Westmeath and a member of Oireachtas Media Committee.
He says that videos containing content that is not legal must be fully moderated before they can be viewed by anyone.
