It was revealed yesterday the Garda had been re-instated.
The Chairperson of the Public Accounts Committee says the time spent investigating a midlands Garda who was suspended after giving a pensioner a bike during the pandemic is "bizarre."
Commissioner Drew Harris appeared before the committee, where it was revealed the Westmeath Garda was re-instated following the incident in 2020.
The GRA welcomed the decision, and said it endorsed the integrity of his actions and decision making.
PAC Chair, and Laois Offaly Sinn Féin TD Brian Stanley, says at a time when Gardaí are under-resourced, using senior officers to investigate a matter such as this is head-scratching:
