Des opened Des Browne Jewellers on Main St. Portlaoise in 1963, after working in West's Jewellers, on Grafton Street and the infamous O’Connor's, in Harold’s Cross.
In a post on Gerry Browne Facebook page, he was described as "a master at his craft, a keen golfer, a great husband, a great Dad, granddad and great grandad , one of life’s true gentlemen.
He will be laid to rest in SS Peter and Paul's Cemetery, after 12 noon mass in SS Peter and Paul's Church, for 12 noon Mass.
