A truck driver has been arrested after allegedly hitting a bridge in Laois.
They were unfamiliar with the area and were following Sat Nav directions. They were also unaware of the height of their trailer resulting in the collision.
There was heavy traffic congestion in Portlaoise until the bridge was inspected and deemed safe by Iarnród Eireann's engineers.
The scene could be cleared following the inspection.
They charged to appear in Court.
Gardaí are asking all drivers to familiarise themselves with their vehicle & trailer heights and not to be overly reliant on Sat Nav's to avoid this type of incident.
