The situation is entirely different for Midland Regional Hospital Mullingar.
A new HSE league table shows midlands hospitals occupying the top and bottom spots on outpatient waiting times.
The data shows Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore among the best in the country with 98% of outpatients waiting less than 12 months for an appointment.
Mullingar Hospital however is at the other end of the table with just 76% of outpatients waiting less than a year.
Portlaoise sits in the middle of the pack at 80%, just one percentage point below the national average, while Portiuncula University Hospital up at 91%.
Galway University Hospital is the worst performing in the country with 48 thousand people on their outpatient waiting list.
