They attempted to hijack a car yesterday evening.
Two teenagers have been arrested following a number of violent assaults in Westmeath.
The first of which took place just off Church Street in Athlone at about 7.30 yesterday evening, when a man in his 20s was assaulted and an attempt was made to rob his property.
Two young men fled the scene, and about 15 minutes later, made an attempt to hijack a car in St. Kieran's Terrace on Abbey Road in Athlone town centre.
A man in his mid-40s was assaulted during the incident, receiving punches and kicks to his face, with the young men fleeing the scene again.
They were arrested shortly afterwards, at about 8 o'clock, following a struggle at Apple Green in Arcadia.
The teens - one aged just under 18 and the other just over 18 - are currently being detained at Athlone Garda Station.
They will remain in custody until later this evening at the earliest, according to gardaí.
