Two-Year High In Trolley Figures

27 of those are waiting on beds in midlands hospitals.

The level of overcrowding in hospitals countrywide is so bad, it's become a national emergency.

That's according to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, which is calling for the HSE to take extraordinary measures, with 760 patients on trolleys today.

There are 27 patients waiting on beds in the midlands - 24 in Mullingar, four in Portlaoise and two in Mullingar.

It's the highest number of people waiting for a bed in hospitals across the country in almost two years.
