Its President Nicolas Maduro appeared in court in New York yesterday to face drugs and weapons charges after being deposed in a US military operation in Caracas on Sunday.
Juan Venegas left his home in 1999 and has lived in Portlaoise for over 20 years.
He's happy to see the end of President Maduro's time in office, after what he's describing as near famine conditions began to take hold in recent years.
