The funeral mass of the Athlone siblings took place today.
The Westmeath man, who drowned in Ballybunion, has been described as a fantastic tradesman, friend, partner and father figure.
The funeral mass of Athlone's Dessie Byrne and his sister Muriel Eriksson, who passed away last Thursday, took place today.
Muriel has been described as the most loving and caring person in the world.
The family had been holidaying in Kerry and Dessie's son was at the beach when the tragedy occurred.
Speaking at their funeral, family member Keith says the siblings were very close:
Dessie's son Dean said it's been hard to come to terms with losing two family members:
Photos, a vintage car and a cycling jersey were among the gifts brought to the alter.
Fr Ray Milton, the chief celebrant, says there was absolute shock and disbelief when the news broke of the untimely deaths of the siblings.
He described how a family holiday had turned into a nightmare and told the family that it was one of the most difficult things they would face in life.
