Westmeath Among First Counties To Achieve Full Broadband Coverage

Over 19,000 properties in the county are covered by the National Broadband Plan.

Westmeath will be one of the first counties in Ireland to have full broadband coverage.

It comes as Kilkenny becomes the first in the country - more than 19,000 premises in the county are included in the National Broadband Plan, and have minimum speeds of 500 megabits per second delivered to homes, businesses, farms and schools.

2.5 million poles and thousands of kilometres of cables are being laid across the country, with the government describing the scheme as the equivalent of rural electrification for this generation.
