Westmeath Auctioneer Welcomes New Short Term Letting Regulations

Offaly, Carlow and Longford County Councils have received no applications on short terms lets.

New regulations around short term letting will bring greater transparency to the market.

That's according to Westmeath Councillor and Auctioneer Andrew Duncan.

It comes following an Irish Independent investigation which shows over the past three years, more than 1,600 properties have been investigated for suspected illegal short term letting.

The entirety of Ireland was declared as a rent pressure zone in June, requiring landlords to apply for planning permission on short terms lets over 90 days.

The number of applications however remains low, with Offaly, Carlow and Longford County Councils receiving none since the change.

Councillor Duncan says it's not going to be a simple task to police these measures:
