Westmeath Children Question The Public Expenditure Minister On His Future Political Plans

They asked if he's planning to run for President.

The Public Expenditure Minister says he won't be running for President. 

Paschal Donohoe was responding to questions from the pupils in An Grianán NS in Mount Temple about his future political plans.

He was visiting the school to discuss the Blue Star programme, which teaches children about the EU and its different cultures.

It comes as former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern is refusing to rule himself out of running in the next Presidential election. 

Mr. Ahern is attending the Agreement 25 conference in Belfast which will be addressed by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar today. 

Former US President Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are also attending the event at Queen's University Belfast.
