A four year old boy was killed after being hit by a car in the Farronshock estate.
A community is "in shock" after a young boy was killed after being struck by a car in Westmeath.
The boy, who had just celebrated his fourth birthday, was hit by the car shortly after 6:30pm on Monday in the Farranshock Housing Estate in Mullingar.
He was treated at the scene before being taken by ambulance to Mullingar Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses of the incident.
