The local authority are to remove unauthorised structures in Lissywollen.
Westmeath County Council is opening an enforcement file to deal with the remnants of an international protection applicant accommodation centre.
The local authority says inspections will be carried out in Lissywollen in Athlone, and any unauthorised structures or works will be dealt with.
It comes after four councillors from the town put forward a motion calling for the removal of all infrastructure left over from the site's previous life as an IPAS centre.
The High Court issued an order in November which led to the closure of the development, after local reps successfully objected to it based on planning and environmental laws.
