Weronica Halusko is appyling to get her car back after the June 2025 incident.
A Garda in Westmeath is recounting her experience of having a car speed towards her head-on, according to the Irish Independent.
Stephanie Treacy, who is based in Athlone, was in the town's district court as the State objected to an application by 33 year old Weronica Halusko, of Newpark Village, Kiltoom, Athlone, in Roscommon for the return of the vehicle involved.
Garda Treacy says she observed a car driving slowly through a crossroads at Corr in Waldenstown in June last year.
As she approached, the 132-registered black BMW starting speeding towards her head-on.
She says all she could do was beep her horn as much as possible and close her eyes.
At the last second, the BMW swerved back onto the correct side of the road.
Garda Treacy subsequently seized the vehicle and is objecting to the car being returned to its owner because she thinks something "worse could happen".
She added Ms Halusko has come to the Gardaí's attention on numerous occassions.
Her defence told the court she had been left "hugely inconvenienced" by having to rely on her partner’s car, and was taking measures to address mental health issues.
Judge Bernadette Owens said she wanted Ms Halusko to produce evidence from her GP of her attendance and she wanted to see an up-to-date psychotherapist report before ruling.
The case is adjourned until a sitting of Athlone District Court on November 6.
