Fine Gael Rep Defends Decision To Increase Westmeath Local Property Tax

Councillors voted on a 15% increase in the LPT this week.

Fine Gael is defending a decision to increase the Local Property Tax in Westmeath by 15%.

The move will come into effect next year and will remain in place for a five year period. 

It's predicted to generate a €1 million income in that time.

There was opposition to the decision in the local authority from some councillors, with the increase eventually winning by 11 votes to 6.
