Fresh Today's owners are pointing to the big supermarket chains after announcing their decision.
A Westmeath food grocery shop is the latest midlands retail business to bring down its shutters for the final time.
'Fresh Today' is calling time on their 27 years trading at the Harbour Place Shopping Centre in Mullingar.
The shops owners are saying stand alone fruit and veg sellers are struggling to compete with larger Supermarkets.
"It is with deep regret to inform you that we are closing. . .after 27 years trading in the Harbour Place."
Adding they believe Irish vegetable growers are being squeezed out of the market by larger chains like Lidl, and Aldi.
Fresh Today has a number of other outlets across the midlands and North West.
The news follows the recent announcement that Fashion retailers New Look in Mullingar and Quiz in Athlone are set to close.
The Ellis family, who owns 'Fresh Today', are saying they intend to return to the town in the future with a much larger premises.
