The building in question has been vacant for over a decade.

Laois County Council is facing calls to take "whatever means necessary" to re-develop a derelict site at the heart of Mountmellick.

The former Central Garage has been lying vacant on Emmett Street for over ten years.

The local authority is going to investigate the possibility of obtaining the property, following calls from local councillor Paddy Bracken.

The Fianna Fáil rep says the almost two acre site also comes with three houses:
