Brian Stanley believes too many people are left confused over the meaning of the new speed limit signs.
"Who is the genius who came up with the stripes?"
That's the question being asked by Laois TD Brian Stanley upon the arrival of new, lower speed limits on local roads.
Last week the majority of these rural roads have been reduced from 80 kilometres an hour to 60.
This is signposted with five diagonal black lines, across a white background.
The Independent rep says he is in favour of the reduced limits, but wants to see Gardaí on top of the issue:
