The return of a dedicated Garda to a small station in Laois is welcome, but it's only a sticking plaster to the broader problem according to a former detective based in Westmeath.
It comes as new figures from the Department of Justice shows Arles station was one just three in the country to see a dedicated garda return after a period without one.
The other stations are Carrignavar in Cork and and Swanlinbar in Cavan.
Whether these smaller stations are manned properly besides the point according to former detective and author, Mullingar's Pat Marry.
He says there'll be no gardaí to move around in future if working conditions aren't addressed:
