A former Athlone player came back to haunt the midlanders with a late winner.
Athlone Town fell to their third straight loss in the League of Ireland First Division over the weekend.
Dario Castelo's side were beaten 2-1 on the road to Wexford in Ferrycarrig Park on Friday night.
Town went behind to a Lewis Temple goal in the first half, but managed to equalise early in the second period through Leonardo Gaxha.
A 78th minute strike from former Athlone player Thomas Oluwya won the game and three points for Wexford.
The midlanders return to action against Finn Harps on Friday night.
