Their fixture with Shelbourne kicks off at 7:45.
Either Athlone Town or Shelbourne could take an early scalp in the SSE Airtricity First Division promotion race.
They face one another in Tolka Park at 7:45 this evening.
Previously unbeaten UCD and Treaty United also clash this evening in a round of games which has the potential to shake up the top placings.
Athlone could open up a three point lead if results go their way but could also end up as low as third.
Aidan Friel has missed the last two games through injury while manager Adrian Carberry may also choose to shake things up following last weekend's first defeat of the season.
Jonathon Carlin and Brandon McCrann are pushing for a starting birth while Stephen Meaney will also hope to earn his place back having dropped to the bench in favour of Shane Barnes against Cabinteely.
Meanwhile their opponents tonight come into the game unbeaten but following a sucker punch against Treaty United last Friday night, when a 97th minute equaliser by the Limerick side stopped Shels taking top spot from the midlanders.
Speaking to the club's official website, Shelbourne boss Ian Morris said:
“Athlone are a dangerous team. Anyone that has that raw pace is a serious threat. They can score goals but also concede so we’ll be looking for the three points ourselves,”
“We’ll be looking to get back to winning ways. It was sloppy and unlike us to concede in that manner at the end but we’ll take the positives from the character the players showed coming out for the second half, creating chances and getting two goals,”
Shels top scorer Georgie Poyntan returns to their squad however Denzil Fernandes and signing from Derry Gerardo Bruma both remain out.
