They had taken the lead against high flying Bray.
Athlone Town's inability to hold onto a lead reared its head again as the midlanders went down 3-1 to Bray in the SSE Airtricity League 1st division.
Town winger Adam Lennon bagged his second of the season to give Adrian Carberry's side an unlikely lead after 19 minutes.
They held that lead for a quarter of an hour until two goals in three minutes from the seagulls turned the game on it's head.
Bray added a third midway through the second half to condemn Athlone to their eighth defeat of the season.
