Westmeath Senior Hurling Manager Joe Fortune has been reflecting on a spirited display against Kilkenny on Saturday.
The Westmeath Senior Hurling Manager says his panel aren’t interested in moral victories, despite a good performance against Kilkenny at the weekend.
Joe Fortune’s side led the Leinster Champions for large parts of the first half, but were eventually beaten 5-23 to 1-19.
Next up for Westmeath in the Leinster Championship is a trip to Salthill to face Galway on Saturday.
Joe Fortune told reporters after the game that the performance won’t come as a surprise to his panel:
"It’s not even about enjoying it. Those lads don’t want enjoyment. They want to win these games too. And they’re a massively proud bunch.
"At some stage along the way, underage, minor, under 20s, they’ve won big games against Kilkenny, Wexford, Dublin. At some stage in the next couple of years they need to take a really big team at senior level in order to progress."
Meanwhile, Laois will be looking to book at place in the Leinster Under 20 Hurling semi-finals tonight.
They host Wexford in the quarter-finals at MW Hire O’Moore Park in Portlaoise, where throw-in is at 7.30pm.
