Ian Garry is now a champion at Welterweight in the Cage Warriors promotion.
Ireland’s undefeated MMA prospect Ian Garry reached the pinnacle of European MMA, winning the vacant Cage Warriors Welterweight Title in the main event of Cage Warriors 125.
Garry claimed the belt beating veteran Jack Grant by unanimous decision in the final of their Welterweight tournament.
Widely regarded as Ireland’s brightest MMA prospect since Conor McGregor, Garry ran out the clear winner taking every round on the judges scorecards.
Managing to escape a number of close submission attempts against an experienced and accomplished grappler in Jack Grant, Garry managed to keep his composure and use his reach and superior striking ability to pick Grant apart over the course of the five round contest.
Garry was in uncharted waters having never competed in a five round contest and having only once gone passed the second round in his career.
The win capped of a turbulent fight week for Garry who split from Team KF which risked him losing out on the fight altogether due to not having any corner men.
He managed to put together a makeshift corner team featuring fellow Cage Warriors fighter Paul Hughes, who cornered Northern Irish fighter Joe McColgan as he won the Cage Warriors Lightweight Title the night before, along with his manager Layla Anna-Lee.
Garry joins esteemed company in claiming the welterweight belt which includes MMA legend Dan Hardy as well as fellow Irishman Cathal Pendred.
With the last three men to hold the title vacating before moving to either the UFC or Bellator it seems only a matter of time before Ireland have another fighter to get behind in one of MMA’s biggest promotions.
