Lots of action on the opening weekend
It was a mixed weekend of results for local sides in the opening round of the National Football League.
On Saturday night in Division Three Offaly played well for three quarters of the game against Cork before going down by 20 points to 13.
Yesterday at Dr Hyde Park in Roscommon two goals in the final five minutes from Evan O'Carroll and team captain Kieran Lillis gave Laois a dramatic draw against the home side.
That game ended up 2-14 apiece.
Westmeath edged past Clare by a point in Mullingar winning by 2-9 to 1-11
John Heslin converted a free in the 5th minute of injury time to give the Lake County the narrow win.
On the Hurling front there was no luck for Westmeath of Laois in Division One at the weekend.
Yesterday in Division 1A Westmeath went down to Galway by 1-24 to 0-10 while on Saturday night Laois put up a good performance for three quarters of the match before going under to Wexford by 2-27 to 2-16.
Offaly began their Division 2A campaign with hard-fought 26 points to 1-21 win against Meath in Birr.
