Two dramatic games came down to the wire tonight.

Two U-20 panels from the midlands showed maturity beyond their years tonight.

Offaly and Westmeath are both in the final four of the Leinster Championship with two wins on the road tonight.

First up the faithful gave themselves a nail biting finish in a game they deserved to win by more.

They led their hosts Wexford by six points with ten minutes remaining but would fail to trouble the scoreboard in the closing stages, allowing the South East side to rattling off five scores in succession to finish on a final score of 1-10 to 1-9 in favour of the visitors.

Offaly were in command early on and led by four at the break 0-7 to 0-3.

They would kick on early into the second period and when Jack Bryant slotted home a penalty four minutes into the second half, they looked in total control.

From then on they'd make hard work of it and only Bryant, Cormac Egan and Cathal Flynn would add to their total.

They just had too much for Wexford all over the park though in-spite of the tight score and rightly advance to the semi-final stages next week.

Offaly scorers:

Jack Bryant 1-3, Cormac Delaney, Aaron Kellaghan both (0-2), Cathal Flynn, Morgan Tynan both (0-1)

At the same time over a hundred kilometres away in Longford, Westmeath were also on their way to an epic win.

An enthralling local derby with Longford saw the lake county concede two first half goals to trail by five after 25 minutes of the first half played, to recover with a goal of their own and trail by one at the half.

A superb start to the second period saw Westmeath raise a green flag almost immediately and move into a two point advantage of their own.

That lead peaked at four before Longford struck for a third goal and a point of their own to level the tie for the fourth time and send the game to extra-time.

Both sides would spend the next twenty minutes trading points with a full-time score after 80 minutes of play, Longford 3-9 Westmeath 2-12.

The game came down to spot kicks and it was Westmeath who held their nerve best, coming out on top on the seventh round of kicks and advance following a very physical and hard fought game.

They’ll now face one another in the last four.

Westmeath scorers:

Brandon Kelly (1-05), Senan Baker (1-0), Jordan McDonnell (0-03), Liam Moran, Kevin O’Sullivan, Enda Gaffney, Ben McGaura all (0-1).
