It sets him up well for a tilt on the European stage.
Celebrations are continuing at St. Carthage's Boxing Club following Paul Loonam's coronation as National U22 champion at 60kg last weekend.
He bowled through every competitor put in front of him, winning by unanimous points decision in the quarter-final, semi-final and the final itself.
His opponent Killian Geraghty from Crumlin, proved no match for the Tullamore based fighter.
The win puts Loonam in the front seat for selection for the upcoming European Championships in Croatia later this year, where he will undoubtedly be joined in his corner by father Paul Loonam and uncle Kevin, who've been by his side throughout this process.
It won't be his first foray onto the international scene however after he competed proudly on the European stage seven years ago as a schoolboy.
