Ten Teams From Laois, Offaly And Westmeath Hit The Road For More Leinster Championship Action

It's another busy weekend across the grades for teams in the region.

The Leinster club championship continues a pace for teams in Laois, Offaly and Westmeath and we will take a look at what is on the menu at provincial level this weekend.

It starts on Saturday with the last eight of the intermediate football championship. Park-Ratheniska and Clara have already tasted victory over Naomh Eoin and St. Brigid's Killashee respectively and come into this stage hoping that another strong performance can see them into the last four.

Both Crossabeg-Balltmurn and Donabate are untested since their county final successes so a bit of ring rust could come into play late on.

The other local interest here sees Tang enter the fray to take on Kildare champions Kilcock. The lilywhite side have already had an eight point victory over opposition from Wicklow in the previous round.

In the junior ranks Clonbullogue will aim to achieve back to back successes following their demolition of Legan Sarsfields in the previous round. They'll face a tricky task against Louth champions Glen Emmetts who will be full of confidence after defeating the Meath champions convincingly in round one. Home advantage could prove key for the Offaly side.

Castletown-Finnea-Coole-Whitehall make their bow in the competition against Dublin champions St. Marks who are fresh off a win in the glamour tie against Amsterdam in the opening round. That 3-8 to 1-9 success came only last weekend so could prove to be to their detriment on the heavy surfaces as conditions turn more wintery.

Switching codes to hurling, an Clodiagh Gaels go in search of the final last four spot in the intermediate championship. Naas,  Glenmore (Kilkenny) and Oylgate-Glenbrien (Wexford) have already progress with the Wexford champions the potential opponents if Clodiagh Gaels can eek out a win this Saturday afternoon.

Their opponents are Meath victors Kildalkey, who are also yet to play a game in Leinster this year. Clodiagh Gaels aren't long removed from capturing the county championship in Offaly but by all accounts got the heads screwed back on relatively quickly and should be in good fettle to give this game a fine rattle.

At junior level the re-arranged fixture between Trumera and Maynooth will finally take place after a postponement seven days ago. Trumera have already picked up a decent win to reach this stage against Longford Slashers and travel to Kildare to take on Maynooth in the last eight.

Offaly champions Shamrocks had a bye in round one and begin against a team from Meath in Boardsmill who are also playing their first fixture at provincial level in 2021 so it's a truly level playing field for both and Shamrocks currently slight favourites according to the betting markets.
