Walsh Cup Contest Abandoned With Galway Cruising Past Offaly

Conditions continued to worsen after the game started.

A contest that descended into a farce.

That's how Johnny Kelly is describing Offaly's abandoned match with Galway in the Walsh Cup yesterday.

The county's senior hurling manager watched his side concede four goals to a superior Galway up to the 55th minute before dense fog made the game unplayable.

Prior to the game being called off, Offaly's silver lining through the fog was the unerring accuracy of Eoghan Cahill who hit nine points, eight of which were from frees.

Donal Shirley won his first start for the Faithful County and impressed in cameos. Elsewhere Cathal King had an industrious game behind Shriley and Adam Screeney was introduced at half time.

Performance evaluation was generally on hold according to both managers yesterday on the basis that very little could be seen.

Kelly tells Midlands 103's David Hollywood the conditions just kept getting worse:

Galway manager Henry Shefflin says he won't judge his side's performance due to the conditions.

He also says he's happy with the officials approach to the conditions:

The score was 1-11 to 4-15 at the final whistle.
