Athlone Town's preparations for another campaign chasing promotion continued last night with a scoreless draw against the League of Ireland Premier Division champions.
Shamrock Rovers came to the Midlands for their Leinster Senior Cup Group fixture with Athlone needing a win to book their passage in to the knock out phase of the pre-season competition.
A youthful Rovers side were put under pressure by Dario Castelo's side on a number of occasions but the finish never came.
