He wasn't entitled to compensation from the State of Missouri, so the public stepped in to help.
In the US, a fundraiser for a man who spent 43 years in prison before his conviction was overturned has topped $1.4m dollars.
62 year old Kevin Strickland would not receive compensation from the State of Missouri, so the public stepped in to help with costs.
The state only allows compensation payments for those who are exonerated by DNA evidence, however this wasn't the case for Mr. Strickland.
He maintains to this day that he was at home when the crimes he was convicted of, a triple murder in Kansas City, was committed in 1978.
