The unit will provide for up to 15,000 people in the area.
A new midlands primary care centre has been given the green light, over a decade after it was originally proposed.
Located in the Townparks area, the Birr Primary Care Unit will provide nursing, physiotherapy, mental health and other medical services for up to 15,000 people in the area.
The project has been waiting since March for HSE approval to move to the planning stage.
