It's being raised for the first time since 2017.
Local Property Tax in Laois is set to increase to 15%.
Councillors voted on the measure this week, representing the second local authority in the region to do so, after Westmeath County Council adopted a similar rate last week.
Acting Director of Services, Simon Walton, estimates the move will generate over €270,000 extra income compared to the usual 10% rate.
Independent Councillor, James Kelly, who is in favour of the decision, says more funding is needed for footpaths, playgrounds and public lighting:
Increasing costs is the primary reason behind the decision to raise the Local Property Tax in Laois, according to the County Cathaoirleach.
Sinn Féin Rep, Caroline Dwane Stanley, was the only Councillor to oppose the move in the County Chambers this week.
