The littering of disposable vapes is having an impact on the level of dumping in the county.
So far this year, 167 tonnes of litter from illegal dumping have been collected in Laois.
Seven successful cases of illegal dumping were brought before the courts in the county two weeks ago.
Those who received fines for the offence were charged between €120 and €370.
Laois County Councillor Barry Walsh says that this has a negative impact on a county:
While it is disheartening to see illegal dumping rising, it won't stop a Laois Tidy Towns group carrying out the work they are passionate about.
That's according to the secretary of Portlaoise Tidy Towns, Vincent Booth.
Mr. Booth says the new trend of littering disposable vapes is making their job more difficult:
