415 Children In Midlands Waiting Over 3 Months For Disability Assesment

The system allows diagnosis of a disability, like autism.

Thousands of children with disabilities are waiting to have an assessment of their needs completed.

More than 4,600 applications are overdue with over three thousand at least three months behind.

652 of those are in the Midlands with 415 of those overdue by more than 3 months.

The 'assessment of need' allows children to be diagnosed with a disability, like autism, and then apply for the care they require..

Lorraine Dempsey from the Special Needs Parents Association says the HSE is supposed to have these tests finished within six months:
