Longford- Westmeath TD Sorca Clarke says understaffing is hindering response times for paramedics.
Ambulance response times have slightly dropped in the Midlands, despite a 14% fall in emergency calls nationally.
Figures provided by the National Ambulance Service to Longford-Westmeath TD Sorca Clarke, shows the average purple call response time in March this year under 19 minutes was around 73%.
That's down to 68% in the same time period., while it's dropped from 46 to 44% for red calls.
The average response time for both categories in the year to April is 23 minutes, down from 24 minutes in 2025.
Deputy Clarke says it's not the fault of paramedics or other emergency medical personnel, keeping the service going while "understaffed, overworked and exhausted."
The Sinn Fein rep says her party is calling for a fully funded, multi-annual plan which gives the service the people, vehicles, infrastructure and capacity it needs.
