Calls For Adoptees To Have Greater Access to Personal Records

An Offaly councillor is behind the proposal.

Minister for Children Roderic O'Gorman is being called on to allow adoptees greater access to their personal records.

Offaly councillor Eddie Fitzpatrick is behind the move and wants other local authorities to join him in writing to the minister.

Currently, those who are adopted within the state cannot access birth certs or information on medical histories of their family.

The Fianna Fáil rep says that needs to change.
