The Minister for Further and Higher education has raised concerns over the influence same-sex schools can have on students going forward.
Calls are being made to see the ending of single sex schools across Ireland.
Minister for Further and Higher Education, Patrick O'Donovan, has been raising concerns over the possibility of these schools leading to 'aggression' and gender-based violence.
As things stand, one-third of girls in Ireland attend an all-girls school, while for boys, 41% are in a same-sex school.
Guidance counsellor from Mullingar, and former teacher, Betty McLaughlin, has taught in both same sex and mixed schools - she says while the measure couldn't happen over night, she agrees gendered schools need to be phased out:
