A state commemoration of the Royal Irish Constabulary is being heavily criticised by a Meath West TD.

The Government is holding an event in Dublin Castle next week to remember the police service in Ireland during British occupation.

Aontú leader Peadar Tóibín says, while reconciliation is important, it is not appropriate to commemorate a violent, colonial power.

He's calling on Justice Minister and Laois TD Charlie Flanagan to call off the event:
