A man in his 60's lost his life while mowing Mountrath Golf Course.

The death of a Laois man in a workplace accident yesterday is being described as a "terrible tragedy".

Declan Doocey, aged in his 60s, was injured while carrying out maintenance work at Mountrath Golf Course yesterday morning.

Gardaí are reporting he lost control of a mowing machine.

He was taken to Portlaoise Regional Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
