While there are no plans in place, an Offaly Councillor wants to make sure entire townlands in the county aren't bought up by "someone we don't know."
Concerns are being raised over the potential sale of publicly-owned land in the midlands, which is currently being used for the development of wind farms.
Fine Gael Councillor Liam Quinn says there could be entire townlands in Offaly owned foreign investment firms.
Coillte was heavily criticised last year after the revelation of a deal with a UK asset management company for the sale of thousands of hectares of land.
Speaking to Ronan Berry on Saturday View, Councillor Quinn says exhausted peat-land in the county, which previously had little monetary value, has become more commercially attractive:
