No Confidence Motion Serves No One - John Clendennen

The Fine Gael TD believes the government should be allowed to focus on tackling the cost of living.

A government TD in Offaly is labelling a no confidence vote in the Dáil today as not being 'in the interest of people'.

Sinn Féin is bringing forward the motion in the Government today, citing the failure to recall the Dáil last week and the lack of direct engagement with fuel price protesters.

A €505m package of supports was announced by the government on Sunday evening, with members of opposition deeming this not enough to help with rising energy costs.

Fine Gael's John Clendennen says clearer certainty is needed going forward in order for the government to operate:

A protest linked to the Dáil no-confidence motion is expected to take place this afternoon outside Leinster House.

It will involve members of the wider fuel protest movement, including farmers and hauliers.

Aontú leader and Meath West TD Peadar Tóibín says those attending will bring a clear message for Independent TDs supporting the Government.

The Irish Farmers Association says the Government’s new support measures are important, but its warning against bureaucracy in the rollout.

IFA President, Ballinakill's Francie Gorman says the €100 million fuel scheme for farmers and contractors should be simple and quick to access.

He also says ongoing engagement's needed to protect the sector in difficult times.
